About Ocean County New Jersey

Ocean County was established in 1850 from a piece of land in Monmouth County. The fist government body met in a local tavern and discussions began in regard to where to establish a courthouse. The County Courthouse was built from borrowed plans of the Hudson County Courthouse and also shows Greek Revival architecture. The courthouse today has 24 courtrooms for the Superior Court of New Jersey as well as many buildings for administrative functions. The original courtroom that was built in 1851 only seated 250 people and is now part of the current courthouse and is known as courtroom number one.The county currently has approximately 540,000 residents today.
